WHERE IS KALARI CHIKITSA?

The healing modality offered at this center is known as Traditional Kalari Chikilsa or Marma Chikilsa, which is a form of pressure point therapy. This approach is deeply rooted in the ancient Indian healing traditions of Ayurveda and Sidhaveda. Ayurveda has its origins in Northern India, with foundational texts written in Sanskrit. In contrast, Sidhaveda, a discipline attributed to the sage Agastya, is documented in Tamil, the language of Southern India. While Kalari Chikilsa integrates elements from both systems, it stands out for its use of specific local medicinal formulations alongside pressure point techniques. This system emerged from the necessity of warriors to self-treat injuries sustained in battle. Through their practice of Kalaripayattu, these warriors gained profound insights into human anatomy, particularly regarding the 'Marmas' or vital points.

Marma points

The human body contains 108 Marma points, often referred to as vital or pressure points. Ancient texts indicate that these points are linked to specific junctions or energy centers, aligning with significant anatomical features within the nervous and circulatory systems. Additionally, they act as critical nodes in the body's sensitive energy network. Any disruption to the smooth flow of energy can lead to imbalances, resulting in illness and discomfort. For practitioners of Kalari, understanding Marma points was essential in combat and represented one of the final areas of knowledge imparted to students within the Kalaripayattu tradition. When applied correctly, these vital points can also facilitate the healing of serious health issues. Kalari Chikilsa practitioners possess the skills to identify and eliminate inflammatory blockages, thereby restoring the body's natural balance. Treatments for these blockages may involve physical manipulation, massage, heat therapy, and the use of traditional herbal remedies.

Benefits of Kalarichikitsa

Traditional Indian medicine posits that the human body consists not only of physical substances but also of a subtle energy referred to as Prana. Within the physical realm, bodily fluids circulate through the circulatory system, while nerve impulses traverse the nervous system. In the realm of subtle energy, Prana flows through the Nadi channels and the centers known as Chakras.According to this tradition, the human body is an embodiment of the five fundamental elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements combine in specific configurations termed Doshas, which translates to "prone to imbalance." When in harmony, Doshas represent an undetectable energy force; however, when they become unbalanced, they manifest visibly as wind, bile, and mucus. Each of the three Doshas serves a distinct role within the body. Vata, associated with the elements of air and ether, corresponds to the nervous system and the body's movement, including the lungs, colon, and subtle channels. Pitha, linked to the elements of fire and water, is associated with enzymatic processes and the body's assimilation force, with fire represented in the form of acidic fluids. Kapha, related to the elements of earth and water, embodies the principles of fluidity and stability, with bodily water contained by the boundaries of the earth, such as skin and tissues. Each Dosha possesses unique characteristics and functions within both the body and mind; the natural dominance of one or more Doshas helps to define an individual's physical constitution (prakriti) and personality traits. In Ayurvedic philosophy, an imbalance among the physical and mental Doshas is considered a significant factor in the onset of disease. For optimal health, it is essential for these forces to be in balance within the individual. This concept parallels the scientific notion of homeostasis, where a system maintains its internal environment to achieve stability and consistency.

Expectations during treatment at Masters Kalari Heritage

It is our foremost duty to ensure the safety and promote the healing of everyone entrusted to our care. We understand that each individual's healing journey is distinct; however, we have identified several common experiences that typically arise during the treatment process.

While our treatments are designed to provide relaxation for both the body and mind, they also demand energy from the body. Consequently, patients may feel fatigued after any treatment. This is a natural aspect of the healing process, and we encourage you to respect your body's need for rest when necessary. During the active phases of detoxification, restoration, and healing, the body utilizes its resources extensively, which is why we have chosen to conduct this program at a homely atmospher to enhance the overall effectiveness.

With the aim of conserving energy, we invite you to immerse yourself in the tranquility and beauty of nature, which can significantly aid your healing journey. We believe that the treatment experience should be uninterrupted and free from unnecessary external distractions. Therefore, we do not organize activities or promote travel outside the centre during the treatment period. This approach allows us to closely monitor your healing progress, as well as manage your food and water intake. We also recommend minimizing or refraining from activities that could disrupt your healing, such as using cell phones, accessing the internet, or engaging in work-related tasks.
